Complete food for dogs aged 7 and over. Digestive efficiency and energy expenditure decrease with age, making food digestibility more important than quantity.
70% total chicken, of which 40% is fresh chicken (after extrusion). Brown rice as the carbohydrate source. 0% soya and wheat.

Fresh chicken 40% (after extrusion), dried chicken (25%), brown rice (15%), maize, hydrolysed chicken liver and GOOD + FEEL COMPLEX (10%): beetroot, fish oil rich in omega 3, linseed, yucca schidigera and citrus extracts.
The range Low Grain retains brown rice as a carbohydrate source and excludes soya and wheat. The range Grain Free removes all cereals. Low Grain is a good option if you are moving from a conventional diet and want a gradual transition, or if your dog tolerates rice well.

Indicative ration. Always provide clean, fresh water. Consult your vet if you have any questions.
Your dog’s digestive system needs between seven and ten days to adjust to a new formula. An abrupt change often causes loose stools or food refusal.
Mix one quarter Zen with the usual food. Check stools each morning.
Half and half. If stools become loose, stay at this stage for two more days before progressing.
By now, digestion should have settled completely.
Transition complete. Digestion settles within two weeks; coat shine appears around the fourth week.

It depends on size. Large breeds age sooner: a Great Dane is considered senior at around 6, while a Chihuahua is not until 9 or 10. Seven years is used as a general reference.
Look at the signs rather than age alone: less spontaneous activity, more sleeping, stiffness when getting up or changes in appetite.
Digestive efficiency decreases with age: intestinal absorption declines and metabolism slows down. Food with 90% digestibility provides more usable nutrients per gram, so the dog gets what it needs without eating a larger volume.
This is especially important for maintaining muscle mass, which is the first thing older dogs lose.
Low Grain keeps brown rice as a carbohydrate source and removes soya and wheat, the cereals most associated with intolerances. Grain Free removes all cereals, using potatoes, peas or sweet potatoes instead.
Both ranges share the same formulation principle: fresh meat or fish at the top of the ingredient list, without unnecessary fillers.
It means that 40% is meat or fish before processing, not meal or derivatives. Fresh meat does not undergo high-temperature dehydration, so its essential amino acids remain intact and are better utilised by the body.
The total chicken or salmon percentage includes both the fresh and dehydrated portions.
Between 6 and 8 weeks if stored correctly. After that, fats begin to oxidise and the food loses palatability and nutritional value.
Use the bag’s own closure rather than transferring the food to another container. Keep it cool, dry and away from light, and do not mix a new bag with leftovers from the previous one.
Zen is distributed through specialist stores, veterinary clinics and authorised distributors. We do not sell online because choosing between twenty-one recipes depends on weight, age, activity and any intolerances, and that is best discussed face to face.
